Blogging Book Club

Crafty P suggested that I started a blogging book club. Because I am easily persuaded and I love to read I decide that I would.

I honestly have no idea how this will work. I really haven't thought through it too much. But I think I'm just going to throw it out there and see who is interested. I don't know if anyone is like me, but when I read or watch something really good, I immediately want to talk about it or share it with someone else (this is a recap of our conversation this afternoon Courtney). Perhaps this reveals some aspect of my personality, but I'm sure many have been at the receiving end of my attempts to get you to watch or read something. I know it can be annoying - but just so you know, it's all done out of love. I love knowing someone and being able to pass along something that I think they'll enjoy.

If you didn't notice, this time last year I created two lists on my sidebars of books and shows/movies that I had read or watched. Some of you have told me that you've actually used it to find a book or a movie. That made me so happy! I must also apologize for giving it up pretty quickly. Maybe one of these days I'll start updating them again.

Is a month long enough? I don't think I would do this every month so don't worry that you'll be sucked into something that you don't have time for, but I want to make sure that allowing a month to get the book (Libraries are a wonderful thing. If you don't have one yet, get a library card!) and read it is long enough.

Also, I'm not sure how we would do the discussion? I might try and a find a list of questions to help you process it when you're done or I could just leave it totally up to you to share what you thought and let everyone bounce ideas and thoughts off of one another. Or I could get really crazy and we could do some sort of live chat. Lots of time to think about that and I hope those who are interested give some feedback.

Now, the moment you've all been waiting for. The first book for the blogging book club (completely lame name - any ideas?) is ......drumroll please.....

Love Walked in by Marisa de los Santos

I actually read this book last year, but I am one of those who don't mind reading a really good book again so I will read it right along with you. This book is an easy read, but well written/narrated. It's not chick lit fluff (not that there's anything wrong with that - I read it!) and you'll be drawn into it pretty quickly. My suggestion is to borrow it/buy it but don't read anything about it - even the back/inside cover if you can help it. I think sometimes the general synopsis gives away too much.

Now it's up to you. Leave a comment and let me know if you are interested in participating. I'll iron out the details soon - don't worry I won't be too much of a stickler with the end date. The whole point is to enjoy the book and discussing it (however that happens) friends.

Looking forward to reading with you!

I love this idea!!! I don't have much time to read for fun these days... (mainly because I very, very easily get sucked into novels and don't want to put it down... ever. It can cause some tension when I'm on my 3rd novel for the month but the laundry isn't done ;))
BUT I would love to try. And taking it out of the library is a really great idea!
I'm gonna try it, though - and I'll definitely offer feedback - however it is that we decide to do it! Great idea, Meg!!

Wow! You move fast Meg....glad you got this idea going already!
I'm in (of course...). I think a month will be good. Maybe you could "host" the discussion on your blog and we could all comment? Then we could take turns for future books (am I getting ahead of myself?) Or we could all post our thoughts at the end of the month...sort of like the Sharing Christmas entries. No matter- we'll figure it out. For now, I'm going to try to reserve the book at the library before all the P-burgh bloggers beat me to it! ;)

I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN A BOOK CLUB!!!!!! I am pysched!!!!!!
I'm totally in (so long as I'm welcome, of course)!!! I am really excited, though, so I'm hoping you won't say no. :)

I'll have to leave you to thinking on the issue of feedback...I'm no good at logistics. Just tell me what to do and where to do it and I'm there!

So glad you decided to do this! Who needs Oprah's Book Club when we've got one right here in Blogville??!?

i'm so glad you're doing this! you were meant to host a book club. you are using your talents with reading for a good purpose. you're not annoying when it comes to recommending things - we know it's out of love :) look how much you've recommended to me that i loved (*psst... you just have to watch 24 for me so we can talk about that, hehe)! while i have no idea if i will actively participate (although i would want to) - i know you know me - it would at least point me towards good books and i will absolutely pick them up.
oh, and i'm on page 100 in twilight - aren't you proud??? :)

I'm totally in!! Just checked my library and they have it so I have already placed it on hold. Can't wait to dive in!!

I like both ideas from crafty P for discussing it at the end of the month. Fill us in on the details as you decide them.

Now, I gotta get to cleaning my house so I can read guilt free. :-)

My library has it on hold for me as someone who very obviously didn't know that I was going to be in a book club checked it out.

The nerve.

As soon as I get my hands on it I am going to start it.

I'm so glad that you all are interested! I like the suggestions about feedback and Courtney's idea of everyone getting a chance to pick a book. So get that book and start reading - I don't think you'll be disappointed!

what about starting a facebook group just for this bookclub? you'd have to a) be a member of fb (and you could certainly do that without disclosing too much info out there in fb world) b) you'd have to be invited to join the blogging book club fb discussion group. c) pretty sure we could have some sort of live chat at a predetermined time and date!

Megs, that book looks so FUN! I cannot wait, I'm checking my libraries (yes, that is plural) right now....YEAH! it's on hold at the library I have to head to tomorrow!

So, a little known fact about me is that some gcc friends refer to me as the hub. as in, i need some information about something and I'll call Dozzi (aka Crafty P) and ask her. So I can totally relate to the wanting to share something comment you made. Especially when I'm shopping (which really isn't that often) if I see something that someone else needs or has mentioned they want, I'll call them right there on the spot to tell them about it.

I think I just took up all your blogger space with this comment, so I'll shut my keyboard right now!

i have this book... a wonderful friend gave it to me for my birthday... i planned on reading it over christmas, but i ended up reading twilight instead (i am half way through book three - i can see how you could read all four in a week) reading is your passion - i have always admired the way you can devour a book!

i am in on the book club:)

reading is fun - do you remember RIF or was that something that just my elementary school had?
